Architecture Winter Talks 2026: Order & Ambiguity
Vortragsreihe der Hochschule Bochum
Order and ambiguity can be understood as complementary conditions that allow architecture to remain both legible and open-ended. Order provides a coherent framework through which space, structure, geometry, and movement can be organized, giving a building an underlying sense of stability and intelligibility. Ambiguity, however, emerges when this order is deliberately complicated, allowing elements to support multiple readings, uses, or spatial appropriations.
The coexistence of both creates a productive tension between what is expected and what is encountered, between what is and what becomes possible. Rather than reducing architecture to a purely functional and deterministic model, this term’s lecture series intends to examine architecture as a condition in which an orderly structure allows for uncertainty, change, and plurality to emerge.
