Noch immer träumen weltweit Städte davon, das nächste Bilbao zu werden, sich mit einem spektakulären Kultur-Neubau „neu zu erfinden“ - oder eben zumindest ihr Image neu zu definieren. Die Ausstellung „Kultur:Stadt“, die derzeit in Berlin gezeigt wird, blickt 15 Jahre nach der Eröffnung von Gehry’s Guggenheim auf das Verhältnis von Kultur und Stadt: Braucht es spektakuläre Neubauten wie die Guangzhou Oper von Zaha Hadid? Ist das Palais de Tokyo in Paris ein „Anti-Bilbao“? Kommt wahre Stadtkultur nicht „von unten“ wie etwa bei dem Sozialprojekt Detroit Soup?
In Zusammenarbeit mit den Ausstellungsmachern widmet sich die achte Ausgabe unseres englischen Online-Magazins eben diesem großen Thema, uncube magazine No.08: „Culture & the City“.
